Troop 497 Fast Facts:

• Our troop at St. Joseph's has been active since its founding in 1959.
• Troop 497 typically numbers over 75 scouts.
• 497 is one of the largest troops in Baltimore.
• The troop maintains a year-round active and challenging outdoor program.
• The troop goes camping once a month from September through June.
• A 10 day Summer adventure is planned every year to a different part of the country.
• Boy Scouts plan and run the program.
• We retain most seniors until they age out at 18 years old. They run the core of the leadership.
• Over 40 adult volunteers are active.
• Since 1959, the Eagle rank has been earned by over 200 scouts.
• Troop 497 has long contributed to the community though countless Eagle Scout projects.

We went to summer camp in Connecticut. On the way up we spent an afternoon at a trampoline center. We then spent a week at camp living outdoors. While there we swam canoed, fished, hiked, and played outdoor games. We worked on merit badges learning new skills like wilderness survival, cooking, crafts, pioneering, climbing, and many more. We enjoyed campfires, singing, and hanging out together in our campsite. We made new friends with Scouts from other troops ...

On September 23rd we we going to Assateague Island for the weekend to camp in a group camping area on the sand just behind the sand dunes and about 200 yards from the ocean. Weather and currents permitting, we will set up a swim area along the beach, build sand castles, play games on the beach, hunt for seashells, and you know, everything else you can do at the beach. On Saturday we will ride over to Ocean City, Maryland and explore the boardwalk activities. When we get back to camp we will feast on steam crabs.
