April 2026 - Wye Island NRMA, Queenstown, MD
On 24-26 April we camped at Wye Island Natural Resources Management Area in Queenstown MD. We all camped in the Divinding Creek Campsite 2 to avoid potential muddy conditions in site 1. We parked both trucks with their trailers attached in the site and proceeded to unload the trailers. The Scouts were in the process of setting up their tents and the adults were almost finished setting up the first canopy when suddenly, and without warning, it started to pour down rain. We gathered up the tents, which were in the process of being setup, under the canopy. However, when we tried to finish setting them up under the canopy they were too wet on the inside. We put them aside and replaced them with dry tents. The rain stopped after a short while and we finished setting up camp. We had a few showers overnight. On Saturday morning the SPL divided the Scouts into two groups for a manhunt in the surrounding fields and woods After a head start, one group was being hunted by the other group. They later switched roles.
After lunch the Seniors led the Patrols in a floating fire competition. The Scouts had to build a floating platform with a fire on top. The longest lasting fire was the winner. Surprizingly, not one float sank during the competition and everyone was able to light a fire! This was followed by time to work on advancement and PASS. We were able to finish our dinner before it started to rain again.
On Sunday morning the troop visited the near by 275+ year old Wye Island Holy Tree. Considering how much of the tree is damaged by time it is very surprising to see the tree still alive and with new growth. Check out the photos. We held our Scouts Own Service in front of the Holly Tree.
