October 2021 - Backpacking at Cromwell Valley Park

Our backpacking trip on 30-31 October was an unusual event which was designed to fit with our current Covid-19 protocols and provide a true backpacking experience for the scouts and adults. We planned a short hike (5 miles) and a long hike (10.5 miles) on trails in Cromwell Valley Park in Parkville and on adjacent Loch Raven Reservoir trails. Both hikes terminated at the Scout Camping Area within Cromwell Valley Park. After camping Saturday night we hiked out about 1.3 miles visiting the Lime Kilns on our way back to the parking lot on Sunday morning. Parents were able to drop off and pick up their sons at the park and we did not have to shuttle any vehicles.

Everyone had a good time hiking on a wide variety of terrain and trails from hard to find minor trails to old fire roads. Most of the trails were in the woods but some were along the shoreline of Loch Raven Reservoir.
