June 2021 - Water Weekend on the Susquehanna River

Our June camping trip this year was once again a water weekend on the Susquehanna River. Troop 497 is very thankful to the families who so generously allowed us to camp in their front yards along the river and use their waterfront facilities. About 70 Scouts, adult leaders, and parents camped out with additional people coming up for the day on Saturday.

When you look at the photographs you can see all the water based activities that were partaken including swimming, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and motor boating. The weather cooperated with partly cloudy skies on Saturday without any of the threatened thunderstorms. The cooler nighttime temperatures made it more comfortable for sleeping.

We all had a wonderful feast on Saturday evening. Our kitchen crew prepared what has become our standard menu for water weekend consisting of shrimp, roast beef, and corn on the cob, along with potato and macaroni salads and coleslaw.

Our activities for Saturday evening concluded with our first songfest in 16 months followed by a flag retirement ceremony for about 20 American flags.
