November 2018 - Backpacking the AT around Pen Mar and North
It snowed the day before our backpacking trip and there was more than 6 inches on the ground where we camped on Friday and in the parking lot which caused a few minor issues. We camped Friday night on the snow and in the strong wind in the closed Pen Mar County Park where the temperature dropped to 30 degrees. In the morning we adapted to the conditions. The short hikers where shuttled to their start and the long hikers left from the park up the hill towards High Rock and then back down again before heading north on the Appalachian Trail. We all camped in the clearing for the water line near Antietam Shelter. We had backpacking meals for dinner. The temperature dropped to 30 degrees again overnight. We hike a short distance to the cars on Sunday morning.
